DBS Bank India's B2B comedy hits 30M views

Business banking advertising tends to stick to a familiar script: a corporate office, a list of features and a promise of security. DBS Bank India’s latest work for its digital banking platform, DBS IDEAL, goes somewhere else. It gives us an accountant buried under sticky notes, a child’s report card that looks too good to be true, and a founder racing to finish trade paperwork before a dinner date.

The campaign, “There’s always an IDEAL way to bank,” is the newest chapter of an existing humour-led SME series. It runs across eight interconnected films and follows a family of entrepreneurs and their long-suffering accountant. The films cover digital trade, cross-border remittances, tax payments and transaction scam awareness.

The insight behind the jokes

DBS Bank India did not start from the product. The team started from a simple observation: for many entrepreneurs, business rarely stops when the workday does. A payment can interrupt dinner, and an accountant’s worry can eat into personal time. Conversations with business owners showed that they rarely think in banking products. They think about what they need to finish, what is standing in the way and how quickly they can move.

That is a jobs-to-be-done view of the buyer. A founder does not ask for “multi-factor verification.” They ask for a payment that cannot be authorised by the wrong person while they are distracted. The campaign translates each feature into a recognisable problem.

  • Pending tax payments become a screen covered in sticky notes.
  • Maker-checker controls become a child’s altered report card.
  • Digital bank guarantees become a race against a dinner date.

Why a connected cast matters

Instead of creating a new world for every banking feature, DBS Bank India returns to the same family across generations and the same accountant stuck in the middle. That is a useful device for a product with many capabilities. Each film can stand alone, but the recurring characters make the next instalment feel familiar. It also mirrors how many Indian businesses work, where decisions and responsibilities extend across family members.

The campaign was conceptualised in-house at DBS Bank India and produced by Film Trotters Media, then rolled out on YouTube and digital and social channels, supported by customer engagement and relationship-manager teams.

What the response looks like

The latest campaign recorded 30 million video views, an 81% quality view-through rate and a 94% net sentiment score. For B2B financial content, those are exceptional numbers. They suggest viewers stayed past the opening joke and associated the entertainment with the brand, not with a compromise on seriousness.

Crucially, the comedy does not trivialise security, compliance or control. The humour sits around the decision, not at the expense of it. That is the balance many B2B brands miss when they try to be entertaining.

What marketers can borrow

The campaign is a strong argument against the assumption that serious decisions demand serious advertising. Business owners bring their personalities, relationships, frustrations and ambitions into every part of running a company. A story that respects those realities has more room to be remembered than a feature catalogue.

For brand managers, the practical takeaway is to start with the buyer’s real afternoon, not the product sheet. Keep the difficulty in the scene and the relief in the platform. If your product has many features, a recurring cast can make the next message feel like a continuation rather than a lecture.
