TAFE Queensland has launched Make Your Great Happen, a multi-year brand platform created with Queensland creative partner Cristian & Marianne and production company Compadre Picture Co. The film is the first major public expression of the organisation’s refreshed brand strategy.

The ad in one paragraph

The 30-second spot places real TAFE Queensland staff and students at the centre—more than 125 people from 11 priority study areas—in real locations and workplaces across the state. Music from Ball Park Music carries the emotional weight, and the film closes on the platform line, Make Your Great Happen. It is a deliberately local story: Queensland people, Queensland production, and the practical skills that lead to meaningful work.

The levers it pulls

Three behavioural principles do the heavy lifting.

  • Social proof. Rather than relying on actors, the film shows more than 125 real staff and students already navigating study and career choices. For a viewer, that is evidence: if people like me can do this, the path feels open.
  • Self-efficacy. The tagline turns education into personal momentum. It does not promise prestige; it promises confidence, opportunity and the ability to adapt, which fits the reality that careers are no longer linear.
  • In-group bias. Queensland production, real workplaces and local band Ball Park Music all signal that this is a story from the viewer’s own world. That familiarity lowers the mental distance between the brand and the decision.

What it does for the brand

The platform is not a one-off campaign. Creative director Marianne O’Brien says it was built as a flexible creative system that can support brand awareness, study-area promotion, course consideration and enrolment for years to come. That lets TAFE Queensland keep one emotional story while switching the tactical message.

Chief executive Tim Rawlings frames the idea around individual success: every Queenslander has their own definition of success and their own journey. Brand director Marielle Wallin adds that the platform connects the emotional impact of learning with real-world outcomes, reinforcing the organisation’s position as a lifelong learning partner.

What to borrow for your next campaign

Start with proof, not performance. Real staff, students or customers are harder to coordinate than actors, but they create credibility that no script can match. Use them in real contexts instead of studio sets.

Then build a system, not an ad. A flexible platform gives the brand one consistent idea across television, online video, out-of-home, radio, digital, search, social and owned channels. Finally, anchor the story in local culture. Music, locations and a familiar voice can make a national or institutional brand feel close enough to act on.
