Ranbir Kapoor is Mantra’s new brand face. What next?

The Pune developer has signed Ranbir Kapoor as brand ambassador as it expands into Mumbai and branded residences abroad. The psychology behind the move.

What a film star does for a real estate brand

Mantra Group has appointed actor Ranbir Kapoor as its brand ambassador, as the Pune-based real estate developer moves beyond its home market. The announcement comes with a new brand film featuring Kapoor alongside managing director Rohit Gupta, and a campaign called Festival of Choices.

The timing matters. Mantra is expanding into Mumbai and has entered international markets through branded residences in partnership with luxury label Jacob & Co. After being known primarily as a Pune player, the group now needs a brand that feels larger, more credible and instantly recognisable to buyers who have never visited one of its projects.

A familiar face lowers the stakes

Real estate is a high-involvement purchase. Buyers are not choosing an impulse product; they are deciding where their savings will live. A recognised face works as a mental shortcut, reducing the unease of dealing with an unfamiliar developer.

This is close to the meaning transfer model: the cultural associations a celebrity carries move to the brand, and then on to the buyer. Ranbir Kapoor’s screen image, steady and evolving, fits a developer trying to signal maturity without losing approachability.

Rohit Gupta, managing director, Mantra Group, said: “We felt the brand needed a personality who could represent this evolution.” Ranbir Kapoor added, “I am happy to be part of this next chapter.”

What the campaign is really selling

The name Festival of Choices suggests a portfolio play, not a single launch. Mantra is asking buyers to see a range of options across markets, categories and price points. In behavioural terms, choice feels reassuring only when buyers trust the curator. The celebrity endorsement is the anchor that makes a wide set of options feel selected rather than scattered.

  • Familiarity transfer: the star lends existing goodwill to an unfamiliar name.
  • Transition signal: pairing the founder with the actor communicates continuity and ambition together.
  • Portfolio framing: a festival positions multiple products as one coherent brand experience.

What brand teams should steal

When scaling a regional brand, avoid treating a celebrity as a logo sticker. Match the ambassador to the exact change you are asking buyers to accept. Then connect the face to a consumer benefit, as Mantra does by tying Kapoor to the promise of wider choice.

Attention comes from the star. Action comes from the offer.
