The Face Shop flips festive beauty order with skincare first
The Face Shop's Diwali campaign reframes skincare as the first step of festive prep, not an afterthought, turning routine into ritual.
The Face Shop is asking Indian consumers to change the order of their festive morning. Its new campaign, “Glow Before You Go”, puts skincare at the start of Diwali preparation, ahead of makeup, outfits and the rest of getting ready.
The campaign ties Korean skincare routines to pujas, Diwali dinners and festive parties. A social format built around the line “Before I go to the puja, glow” invites creators and consumers to share their festive plans and skincare routines. The push includes a hero film, creator-led content, conversations with influencers, dermatologists and makeup artists, and a month-long pop-up at Terminal 2 of Mumbai Airport where shoppers can browse the Korean skincare range.
Why the order matters
Most festive beauty conversations in India begin with the outfit, move to makeup, and treat skincare as the step that gets squeezed in at the end—if it makes the list at all. The Face Shop is reversing that sequence.
The idea, as head of marketing Aashriya Sharma explains, is to make skincare the foundation rather than a finishing touch. She describes the opportunity as turning “a last-minute scramble into a ritual people look forward to.”
Ritual is the real product
From a consumer psychology lens, this is less about skincare formulas and more about positioning. Rituals add value because they turn a product into a repeated sequence, and a sequence is easier to turn into habit than a task.
The social prompt does not ask people to buy an extra step. It asks them to start with the step they already skip. Creators show their festive plans alongside their skincare routine, making the product the opening scene instead of an afterthought.
For brand managers, the campaign suggests a simple frame:
- Find the routine consumers already follow.
- Identify the step that comes last or gets skipped.
- Reframe that step as the foundation and give it a ritual trigger.
What marketers can do with it
The Face Shop is selling a ritual, not just a serum. The airport pop-up extends that idea into travel: festive prep can start before you board, not after you land. Running through the festive season across digital platforms and the Mumbai Airport pop-up, the campaign turns a product pitch into a participation prompt.
For seasonal campaigns, the question is whether you are adding one more task to a full list or inserting yourself at the start of an existing routine. The brands that win festive attention are often not the loudest—they are the ones that reorder the morning.
