Dabur Real’s Diwali ad puts friendship before the product
Dabur Real’s Diwali film leads with a child’s act of friendship rather than the pack, a lesson in emotional branding and festive storytelling.
Dabur Real has launched its Diwali campaign, “Real Bonds with Real Greetings,” with a film that quietly moves the festive spotlight from the product to a child’s act of friendship. In the story, families prepare for Diwali before a group of children decides to visit a friend who cannot step out. They recreate the celebration for him using paper crackers, balloons and a Real Greetings pack.
Conceptualised by TARK Marketing Consultants, the film keeps the product present but secondary. The pack is a prop in a shared ritual, not the reason for the occasion.
Diwali is one of Indian advertising’s most crowded emotional moments. Every brand wants to own togetherness, so the memorable work is rarely the loudest. It is the work that makes a broad festive theme feel specific.
The insight: inclusion is more specific than togetherness
Most festive films stop at family togetherness. Dabur Real pushes one step further into active inclusion: children bringing the festival to someone who cannot step out. That shift matters because it turns a familiar emotion into a visible act of care, which is easier for a viewer to retell and remember.
Mayank Kumar, director marketing at Dabur India, called Diwali “a celebration of relationships, togetherness, and the little moments”.
Monisha Prasher, GM marketing-foods at Dabur India, added that the film builds on Real’s trusted place in family moments and aims to make Real part of consumers’ celebrations as they create lasting memories.
Why the product works harder in the background
For a juice brand, the natural instinct is to show the pour, the fruit and the goodness. Here, the pack appears as part of the children’s gesture. That lets the brand absorb the warmth of the moment rather than interrupting it with a claim.
It is emotional branding in action:
- Lead with a feeling: inclusion is the story, not juice.
- Make the product an enabler: the pack helps the children share the festival.
- Keep it specific: one child who cannot step out is more memorable than a generic family montage.
The trade-off: warmth versus visibility
Sceptics may ask whether the brand is too far in the background. But for an established brand like Real, the job is not awareness; it is to stay emotionally relevant. A pack that appears inside a caring ritual can build stronger association than a forced logo moment.
What brand managers can borrow
The campaign is a useful reminder that festive advertising does not need to be a sweep of happy families. Find the smallest ritual where your product can quietly help someone belong, then build the film around that act. When a brand enables a feeling, it earns a place in the memory without having to shout.
For Dabur Real, this is not a product-launch ad. It is a memory-building ad, designed to make the pack part of a moment people already want to keep.
