JK Tyre lifts 16-inch+ mix to about 30%—distribution is the brand

JK Tyre lifted its 16-inch+ passenger tyre mix from 10% to about 30% by pairing national reach with 800 Google-listed shops and fast service.

JK Tyre lifts 16-inch+ mix to 30%

In India’s tyre market, the replacement buyer is the commercial centre. Crisil estimates replacement accounts for around half of sector volume, and ICRA puts it at 55–60% of passenger vehicle tyre demand. For JK Tyre, the dependence is even starker: replacement contributed 64% of consolidated revenue in FY2025-26, on a base of ₹16,384 crore.

That reality explains why JK Tyre’s brand strategy looks less like a conventional ad campaign and more like a full-funnel availability play.

A mass brand with a premium gap

JK Tyre has decades of radial-technology heritage and a national umbrella, “Desh Ka Tyre.” Its 2024 Cheil India film rode one biker across the country to show everything from farm vehicles to premium cars, built on the idea that roads keep Indians connected.

But the premium passenger side was the documented gap. Management says domestic passenger car radial mix moved from roughly 28% to about 30%, against a long-term aspiration of about 40%. The sharper shift was rim size: 16-inch plus rose from 10% in 2020 to about 30%. That is the margin-bearing segment, and it is where the FY26 brand push is aimed.

The four-layer brand engine

The annual report describes a more integrated, measurement-led marketing approach with four layers:

  • National umbrella: co-presenting the Men’s Asia Cup in September 2025 and continuing ICOTY/IMOTY, with ICOTY 2026 outreach at 109 million views.
  • Performance proof: a Guinness World Record high-altitude drift at Umling La on Levitas tyres, 44.8 million racing-season users, and Kush Maini’s Monaco F2 win.
  • Product signals: the November 2025 launch of embedded smart tyres for passenger cars in 14–17 inch sizes, alongside Levitas, Puncture Guard and UX Green.
  • Ownership experience: over 90% of complaints processed digitally and non-truck claims resolution under 30 minutes.

Distribution as brand media

The most instructive part for marketers is not the TV spot. JK Tyre treats local discoverability as brand building. It reports more than 800 branded shops visible on Google, about 80,000 monthly Google Business actions, roughly 29,000 unique calls and 53,000 store visits. In smaller towns, Steel Wheels outlets combine sales with servicing and instant warranty; for fleets, it runs 250-plus pit stops and a pay-per-kilometre model.

This is “physical availability” in action: being easy to see and buy at the exact moment a replacement tyre is needed. The national campaign builds mental availability; the shop, the map result and the service promise close the sale.

What the numbers don’t answer

FY2025-26 results strengthened the story: revenue up 11%, EBITDA up 25% and profit after tax up 50%. The momentum carried into FY27, with domestic volumes up 25% year on year in the June 2026 quarter, capacity utilisation above 90% and a phased ₹4,980 crore expansion approved. Yet there is no campaign-level attribution in the public record, and one open tension remains: whether a single “Desh Ka Tyre” identity can hold both mass national familiarity and premium passenger credibility. The strategy wisely bets that broad trust gives premium proof a bigger stage, but that transfer still has to be managed segment by segment.
