Leadership Churn Signals a Reset in How Brands Are Built

From Adobe's CEO handover to Parle Biscuits' new chief, this week's leadership moves reveal what brands now value: AI fluency, experience and client trust.

What This Week's CMO and CEO Moves Reveal About Brand Power

Leadership announcements usually get read as gossip. They are actually forecasts. Every senior hire is a bet a board is placing on what will matter over the next three years — and when you line up a week’s worth of them, patterns appear faster than in any trend report.

BMI Group of Publications’ weekly talent tracker logged an unusually dense run of moves across media, marketing, technology and consumer businesses. Read together, they say something useful about where brand power is shifting.

The headline moves

  • Adobe: Anil Chakravarthy becomes President and CEO effective December 1, 2026, joining the board, while Shantanu Narayen shifts to Executive Chair. Chakravarthy currently runs Adobe’s Customer Experience Orchestration business and worldwide field operations, and was previously CEO of Informatica.
  • HDFC Bank: MD and CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan retires on October 26, 2026, having chosen not to seek another term. The board is fast-tracking succession; any appointment needs RBI approval.
  • Parle Biscuits: George Kovoor takes over as CEO after three decades at PepsiCo, inheriting Parle-G, Monaco, Hide & Seek and Melody.
  • JSW MG Motor India: Parth Jindal appointed Chairman.
  • Pizza Hut: Aaron Powell steps down as CEO after Yum Brands completed the sale of the chain (excluding mainland China) to Toppings TopCo for USD 1.488 billion in cash, part of a wider USD 2.7 billion transaction.
  • Taco Bell: KFC India’s Moksh Chopra moves to Taco Bell International as Market Lead for India, Sri Lanka and Kuwait, with Aman Lal stepping in as interim GM at KFC India.

Three signals worth reading

1. AI is being written into job titles, not job descriptions

Havas Media Network India elevated Rohan Chincholi to Chief Client and AI Officer — a title that fuses client success with machine capability. Lenovo’s new India communications head, Kiran Balasubramanian, will work on messaging around the company’s Hybrid AI strategy. iLink Digital’s new APAC MD, Anand Dhand, has an AI-led solutions mandate.

The psychological point: when a capability moves into a title, it stops being an experiment and becomes an accountability. If your organisation still treats AI as a tools discussion inside the digital team, you are one org-chart cycle behind.

2. Experience is being promoted above communication

Max Healthcare hired Pawan Kumar Marella — 23 years at Unilever — as Senior Director and Chief Experience and Brand Officer. Bata India moved Gajesh Yadav into retail marketing and visual merchandising leadership. Chuck Studios appointed Ritu Nakra, formerly head of Landor Delhi, as its first APAC Chief Client Officer.

All three are variations on the same insight: brands are no longer built primarily in advertising. They are built at the point of contact — the waiting room, the shelf, the store window. Behavioural science backs this. The peak-end rule tells us people judge an experience by its most intense moment and its ending, not its average. A hospital’s brand lives or dies at discharge, not in a film.

3. Category-hopping talent is now the norm

An FMCG veteran running healthcare brand and experience. A retail operator from Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Selfridges (Oliver Kaye) becoming COO at Boldfit. A Dream Sports marketer (Vikrant Mudaliar) co-founding a personal finance platform in Cruise Money. Sirona bringing in Nidhi Vohra from a beauty and FMCG background as Chief Business Officer.

Consumers do not compare your hospital with other hospitals. They compare every interaction against the best one they had that week — usually from a quick-commerce app. Hiring across categories is how boards import those expectations.

What to do with this

Audit your leadership bench against three questions: Who owns the customer’s felt experience, end to end? Who is accountable for AI outcomes, not AI pilots? And where is your last outsider hire from — because if everyone came from your category, your brand will smell like your category.
