The Trivago guy wants creators to stop giving advice away free

The “Trivago guy” is back, and this time he is selling the thing travel creators have been giving away for free. Abhinav Kumar, the former on-camera face of Trivago’s India campaigns, has opened the creator beta for Tripixo, a platform that turns a travel creator’s advice into a paid service.

From familiar face to founder

Before Tripixo, Kumar became one of the most recognised faces in Indian online advertising as Trivago’s spokesperson. He later led product marketing at Paytm, working across performance marketing, brand building and distribution. Tripixo draws on that background: getting people to trust a recommendation enough to act on it.

What Tripixo actually changes

Travel creators already answer detailed planning questions in comments and direct messages. Tripixo lets them charge for that judgment. Once accepted, a creator gets a branded page, a booking system for paid planning calls, and a workflow that turns each call into a trip page for the traveller. The platform sits alongside the affiliate links creators already use.

“We built Tripixo so creators can charge for that part directly, instead of hoping a commission covers it,” Kumar said.

The bet against AI planners

Tripixo arrives as much of the travel industry rushes to launch AI trip planners. Kumar’s argument is that those tools solve the wrong problem. An AI can tell you which hotel to book, but it cannot tell you why you should book it for your trip, he says. That “why” comes from someone who has stood in the city, made mistakes and learned what is worth it.

“An AI can tell you which hotel to book. It cannot tell you why you should book it, not really,” Kumar said.

The more AI planners there are, the more that human difference is worth.

Why marketers should watch this

Tripixo is a live experiment in unbundling trust from the transaction. Affiliate commissions reward the booking, not the advice behind it. Tripixo treats the creator’s judgment as the product. For brand managers and founders, that is the insight: if customers already ask you for high-value advice, free answers are a pricing decision, not a courtesy.

  • Creators can charge for the specific planning judgment they previously gave away.
  • Audience size matters less than whether followers ask for recommendations.
  • Affiliate income becomes a bonus rather than the entire model.

What to do next

Tripixo is accepting a limited number of creators into its Founding Creator cohort, which includes priority access and reduced fees. Interested creators can apply at tripixo.ai. For everyone else, the move is a prompt: audit where your brand gives away expertise free. The judgment layer may be the product your audience would actually pay for.
