Parachute Advansed is selling softness as romance
Marico's new Parachute Advansed Body Lotion campaign turns softness from a functional claim into a cue for touch and everyday affection.
From skin feel to social glue
Marico has quietly turned a functional skincare promise into an emotional one. The company launched a digital campaign for Parachute Advansed Body Lotion, built around the proposition “Softness Aisi, Dil Dhoondhe Choone Ke Bahane”. Created by Sociowash, the films show a couple in familiar, light-hearted interactions where moisturised skin becomes an invitation for touch.
Softness is a sensory promise; affection is a social one. The campaign shifts the consumer’s question from “Will this make my skin soft?” to “Will this make a small moment between us more likely?” That is a far more memorable job to be done.
The rollout focuses on Delhi-NCR, Bangalore and Hyderabad, a digital-first play aimed at urban consumers who have heard every lotion promise smoothness before.
Why this is more than another lotion ad
In body lotion, softness is table stakes. Every brand claims it; most consumers expect it. Vikram Karwal, chief marketing officer – India, Marico, said the team wanted to “elevate softness beyond a functional outcome” and explore how it shows up as warmth and connection.
That is a classic benefit ladder. The product attribute is moisturisation. The functional benefit is soft skin. The emotional payoff is affection, closeness and the small excuse to touch someone you love. The line works because it translates the payoff into a comprehensible Hindi thought rather than a dermatological claim.
The framework: climb one rung at a time
Marketers often stop at the functional rung because it feels concrete. But a function that every competitor can copy becomes a weak brand memory. The Parachute Advansed work moves up one step and lets the emotional outcome do the differentiation.
- Start from the benefit your category already over-claims.
- Ask what that benefit enables socially, romantically or ritually.
- Show the payoff in an ordinary moment, not a perfect one.
- Wrap it in one simple line that carries the transformation.
What brands can take from it
The craft decision is also worth noting. Himani Mangtani, business head – Mumbai, Sociowash, said the idea was to bring softness alive through “a familiar moment of closeness”, with the song weaving the benefit into the story. The product stays visible, but the story stays human.
For brand managers, the lesson is not to abandon function. It is to use function as a doorway. A body lotion still has to perform; once it does, the brand that owns the emotional memory of that performance wins at the shelf. The three-city digital rollout also suggests a test-and-scale approach: prove the emotional territory with urban digital audiences, then expand.
The next time your category is stuck in a parity battle, ask what your functional benefit lets people do together. That answer is often the campaign you should have been making.
