Meta Banks on Ranveer Singh to Make Smart Glasses Mainstream

Meta appoints Ranveer Singh as first India ambassador for Ray-Ban and Ray-Ban Meta. The brand play: sell identity first, specs later.

Meta makes smart glasses a Bollywood storyline

Meta has signed Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as the first India brand ambassador for Ray-Ban and Ray-Ban Meta. The brief is not simply visibility: the partnership is framed as a strategic push to accelerate smart eyewear adoption across India.

Alongside the announcement, Meta introduced Ray-Ban Meta Audio and said it will launch an AI agent called Muse for its smart glasses portfolio in the coming months. Muse is expected to bring conversational AI directly to the wearable, enabling real-time audio interaction and hands-free use.

Why a celebrity, not a spec sheet?

New wearable categories face a trust gap. A consumer can see the product but cannot easily imagine wearing it every day. A familiar face closes that gap. The endorsement transfers the actor’s recognisability and energy to the product before a buyer forms their own verdict.

In behavioural terms, this combines social proof with the meaning transfer model. The celebrity does not explain the technology; he models the identity. Smart glasses stop being a gadget you have to justify and become an accessory you choose.

Style first, AI second

The order of the message matters. Ray-Ban, a style-led name, comes first. The technology—audio and the Muse AI agent—follows. Meta is betting that Indian consumers will accept wearables faster when the first impression is about look and persona, not sensors and processing power.

  • Familiarity: a known face lowers the perceived risk of trying an unfamiliar category.
  • Aspiration: buyers borrow the ambassador’s status; the glasses become a style badge.
  • Utility anchor: audio and a conversational AI give the endorsement a functional reason to believe.

What the strategy signals

By creating a first-ambassador moment, Meta turns a category push into a news event. The product updates give early adopters something concrete to discuss. For marketers, the takeaway is not the casting itself but the sequence: borrow cultural equity to make the unfamiliar feel safe, then give buyers a functional reason to defend the choice.

The watchpoint is conversion. Celebrity can drive trial, but daily use will depend on how naturally the AI and audio fit into everyday Indian life. Awareness is not the same as habit.
