Kenstar Couple Banter Sells Heaters with a 7-Year Promise
Kenstar casts Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha to sell water heaters on two promises: speed now, up to seven years of warranty later.
Kenstar has launched a winter campaign for its water heater range with a casting choice that’s worth studying. The brand brought in Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha, whose on-screen banter anchors the new television commercial for “Heats Fast, Make It Last”. The creative walks through fast heating, safety, durability, plus installation and after-sales support.
Why a couple beats a solo star
Most celebrity endorsements ask a famous face to point at a product. Kenstar chose something subtler: a pair whose chemistry is already familiar to the audience. Banter between two people feels less like a pitch and more like a scene, which lowers ad resistance. When the couple is a real one, the warmth reads as authentic rather than staged, and a little of that trust rubs off on the brand.
The one-two punch: fast now, lasts later
The campaign’s headline does double duty. “Heats Fast” addresses the immediate reward: a cold winter morning solved in minutes. “Make It Last” addresses the quieter fear behind every durable purchase: what if this breaks soon after I buy it. That dual promise is smart because it answers both the impulse driver and the regret-avoidance driver in a single line.
De-risking a commoditized category
Water heaters are not an exciting purchase. Kenstar’s response is to reduce the risk, not just sell the romance. The ad highlights installation assistance, after-sales support and warranties of up to seven years on select models. CEO Sunil Jain framed the shift this way: consumers now expect “more than just efficient appliances” and want “convenience, reliability and lasting value.”
The portfolio spans storage, instant, gas and immersion rod heaters. Select models add technologies such as SwirlHeat, a seven-level safety shield and high-density PUF insulation, along with 5-star BEE ratings and 8-bar pressure compatibility. Design touches like matte finishes, chrome accents and compact moulds matter too, because buyers picture the appliance on their wall.
What marketers should steal
- Pair a speed claim with a durability claim, so one ad answers “why now” and “why trust”.
- Cast a real pair whose banter feels unscripted; authenticity is the new celebrity.
- Translate specs into feelings: fast heating is relief, safety is peace of mind, design is pride.
- Bring service and warranty out of the fine print and into the creative.
There’s a wider pattern here. In categories where functionality is largely settled, brands compete on the psychological reduction of risk. A warranty number is a concrete promise that outranks a vague “trust us.” Kenstar’s up-to-seven-year coverage turns an invisible durability claim into something a buyer can hold onto while deciding.
The lesson isn’t “hire a famous couple.” It’s that even the most mundane product can be sold on psychology: instant gratification plus loss aversion, wrapped in warmth.
