SRK, Alia and Ranbir spoof steel ads for Rungta TMT

Rungta TMT’s fifth celebrity campaign reunites Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. This time they do not play Don, Gangubai or Barfi. Created by independent agency The Script Room, the film casts the three stars as exaggerated versions of themselves, each pitching a more filmi idea for a TMT bar ad.

From category cliché to creative device

Steel advertising tends to run on the same promise: strength, quality, performance. Instead of avoiding those clichés, the film makes them the joke. As founder Ayyappan Raj told Afaqs!, “It’s almost like we took all the conventions of category advertising and parodied them.”

Why a B2B product goes mass

TMT bars are not an impulse purchase. Contractors, builders, masons, architects and fabricators can all influence the choice. The agency’s argument is that these professionals are still consumers of advertising. For a product that disappears inside a building, brand familiarity works as reassurance. The objective is positive disposition before the specification decision, not immediate sales.

The repetition trick

The brand name is not a one-line mention. Rungta is woven repeatedly into the dialogue and song, so the message lands as part of the entertainment rather than as an interruption. Even the functional promise of “Ekdum Solid Strength” arrives through playful pitches, not a straight voiceover. Repetition with a wink can do what a hard sell cannot: make the brand feel familiar without feeling pushy.

What marketers can borrow

  • Parody your category’s clichés. If every competitor says “strongest, highest quality,” self-awareness earns attention.
  • Write for the talent. The brief already had three stars; the scripts were built around their personas.
  • Weave the brand into the rhythm. The name became part of the dialogue and music, not a logo slapped on.
  • Treat B2B decision makers as consumers. Even engineers and masons are reached by culture.

Positioning beyond celebrity comedy

The Script Room does not want to be known only for celebrity comedy ads. Raj says the agency wants to be synonymous with high-quality screenwriting. For an independent shop, a campaign like this is also a calling card: good work brings good briefs.
